Exploration Investment Company Botswana (EICB) is a strategic organisation established to promote, facilitate, and attract investment into Botswana’s exploration and mining sector.

Overview

The Botswana economy relied heavily on the diamond industry, which accounted for about 80% of the country's export revenues, one-third of government income, and a quarter of the total GDP. Diversificaation from diamonds requires structured and focused exploration for other minerals.

Botswana's mineral wealth is a tale of two landscapes: the exposed ancient rock formations in the eastern part with historical mining activities, and the vast, unexplored western part covered by the Kalahari sands. This untapped concealed area covers over 70% of the country and presents an opportunity for Botswana’s economic future. For decades, the sand cover acted as a "geological blind spot," masking the bedrock beneath and making traditional exploration nearly impossible.

EICB together with its partners intend to combine conventional exploration techniques and new advanced methods, supported by Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to unearth potential deposits concealed beneath the thick kalahari sands.
