Overview

The Botswana economy relied heavily on the diamond industry, which accounted for about 80% of the country's export revenues, one-third of government income, and a quarter of the total GDP. Diversification from diamonds requires structured and focused exploration for other minerals. Botswana's mineral wealth is a tale of two landscapes: the exposed ancient rock formations in the eastern part with historical mining activities, and the vast, unexplored western part covered by the Kalahari sands.

This untapped concealed area covers over 70% of the country and presents an opportunity for Botswana’s economic future. For decades, the sand cover acted as a "geological blind spot," masking the bedrock beneath and making traditional exploration nearly impossible.
